For OBS on Mac

StreamNotch lives in your MacBook’s notch and warns you the moment your mic is muted, frames drop or the disk fills up, even over full-screen games and slides.

Demo: StreamNotch shows a REC timer in the MacBook notch. When the microphone is muted while you talk, the notch opens with a red “You’re talking while muted” alert and an Unmute button.

StreamNotch watches OBS while you focus on the game, the slides or your guests. When something goes wrong, it tells you right where you’re already looking.

19 alerts watch your mic, your stream, your video and your Mac. Critical problems open the notch in red, warnings add a quiet amber dot, and every rule can be tuned or switched off.

Alex asked

“Does StreamNotch show up in my stream?”

It’s built not to. The notch window asks macOS to keep it out of screen captures, and in our tests with OBS 32 display and window capture it didn’t appear in recorded frames. macOS doesn’t guarantee this for every capture method, so check one test recording on your setup. Capturing a specific window or app keeps it out.

Pilots run a checklist before take-off. StreamNotch checks your mic, scene, disk, power and Focus before you go live, and Go Live always takes two deliberate clicks.

Hover the notch to start, pause or stop, switch scenes, mute your mic or mark a moment. It opens after 150 ms, closes when you leave, and never steals focus from your game.

Setup

Ready in two minutes

  1. In OBS, turn on Tools → WebSocket Server Settings. It’s built into OBS 28 and later.
  2. Paste the server password into StreamNotch. Onboarding checks the connection for you.
  3. Hit record. The notch shows REC or LIVE whenever OBS is active, and hides when it isn’t.

New messages slide in under the notch. Hover for recent chat, viewers and your stream title. Mentions, new chatters, raids and subs stand out, and “Ad in 2:00” warns you before an ad break.

One shortcut drops a marker. With Hybrid MP4, OBS writes it as a chapter, and you can copy every marker as YouTube chapters.

Duration, file size, dropped frames, every alert and marker, saved on your Mac and one click from the file in Finder.

Start the OBS replay buffer and save the last few seconds from the notch or with a shortcut. StreamNotch confirms when the file is written.

Global shortcuts work while your game has focus. Change any of them in Settings.

On external displays and Macs without a notch, StreamNotch floats as a compact pill at the top of the screen.

From late-night streams to recorded courses, StreamNotch keeps every take safe, so you can focus on the people watching.

Streamers

Creators on one MacBook screen who need status and alerts without tabbing out of the game, plus Twitch chat in the notch.

Course creators

Record hour-long lessons knowing your mic is live, your screen capture isn’t black and the disk won’t fill up halfway.

Podcasters

Catch a muted or silent mic, clipping peaks and a frozen camera before you lose a guest’s best answer.

Let’s players

Full-screen games hide everything. The notch stays on top with your timer, dropped frames and the replay buffer.

Presenters and educators

Recording slides or a live class? A Focus reminder keeps notifications out of the shot and markers turn into chapters.

Live coders

Stream your editor and terminal with scene switching, mic controls and chat one hover away from your code.
